Working Safely in Hot Weather

Hot conditions don’t just make work uncomfortable, they can lead to fatigue, dehydration, reduced concentration, and increase the risk of accidents or heat-related illnesses. Whether you’re working outdoors, on-site, or indoors without proper ventilation or air conditioning, staying heat-aware is essential for your safety and wellbeing.

🔆 Top tips to stay safe in the heat:

Stay hydrated – Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid excessive caffeine or energy drinks.
Dress smart – Wear light, loose-fitting, breathable clothing.
Take breaks – Rest in shaded or cool areas whenever possible, especially during peak heat (11am–3pm).
Use protection – Apply sunscreen with SPF 30+ if working outside, and reapply throughout the day.
Look out for each other – Watch for signs of heat stress in yourself and your teammates.

⚠️ Warning signs of heat stress include:

• Headache
• Dizziness or light-headedness
• Confusion or irritability
• Nausea or vomiting
• Muscle cramps
• Excessive sweating followed by clammy skin

If you or a colleague shows any of these symptoms, stop work, cool down, and seek help immediately.

Stay cool and safe out there! 😎
